In the Area beach in the year 1951 they discovered material remains and buildings that could exist belonged to an ancient fishing factory of Roman and identical epoch with an ancient legend that speaks about the existence of an ancient one town called Labañón or Estabañón destroyed by the sea; in outskirts also the tradition speaks about another ancient town down them waters of the lagoon of Carrucedo. In the year 877 king Alfonso III did donation of this town to the bishop Rudesindo I. According to the Father Flórez formerly the Areas inhabitants were living of the fishing of through the whales.
