Almayate (The waters), farmhouse of the period was the principal one nazarí of the Vélez-Málaga territory, especially linked with the irrigation agriculture. The only one was a built-up area than after the conquest of the Kings Católicos had privilege to be placed at least of one league of the coast, for what it is known as the "Insurance of Almayate".

As all the populations of the coast veleña, it consists of two areas clearly differentiated: the interior or Almayate Alto of approximately 478 inhabitants that, despite being integrated concerning the High Chapel, it has a high dissemination level; and the side or Almayate Down, more grouped to scarce meters of the N-340.

The small building of only one ship of the High Chapel, nearby to ancient medieval farmhouse, first half of the XXth century was a little left in until in the year 1945 it was returned in parish, with Jesus's Sacred Heart for titling.

This built-up area dominates the mouth of the river Vélez to turn of his hills, Craggy rock and Alarcón, being constituted exactly strategically for the different Towns that placed in coast. The archaeological deposits are abundant, with remains principally Phoenicians placed in the Farmhouse of The Toscanos and in the Garden necropolis. (fte.ayto velez)
