In spite of his limited extension –tan only 16 square kilometers - the municipality of Caves of the Calf presents a few very definite characteristics that it differentiate of near grounds of Antequera and even of the rondeñas, in which it is framed, although here it is already perceived in certain way that one is in the antechamber of a deeper great orographical change, like that supposes the mountainous range with regard to the depression antequerana.

Remains have been discovered in several areas, like the Hill of Pigeons, which make presage the presence of the prehistoric man in this area. But the archaeological finds more important of municipality proceed of the Roman epoch. In The Houses of the Vineyards they have appeared ceramic and coins of the imperial epoch. Also there is appeared a Roman town of oil production and several burials

the Caves gastronomy is very similar to that of the nearby Towns of the mountainous range, predominating over the proper main courses of the Town of field.
