The Istán grounds are framed in the environment of the Saw of the Snow and even a part of them integrates it declared area Reserves of the Biosphere. Istán is synonymous of spring; springs that there flow richly for the numerous sources with which the Town is provided and which, undoubtedly, they contribute to a great extent that this one is so peculiar.

Istán played an important role during the Moorish riot of 1568 and, suffocated this one, his inhabitants were spread and Istán repopulated with old Christians of diverse places, including one numerous group of Murcia, which dialect of the so called Castilian panocho serves since then like Istán name.
