These orchids receive their name of the Greek ..... "orchis" that means testicle, for the appearance of the underground tubers in some terrestrial species. The word 'orchis' it used it for the first time Teofrasto (371/372 - 287/286 to. C.), in their book "Of history plantarum (The natural history of the plants)." It was pupil of Aristotle and it is considered as the father of the Botany and of the Ecology.
