Until the XIX century, Peñarrubia was the entrance door to a district of isolated Liébana for its vigorous relief. The complicated access was carried out from the district Cut-Nansa, crossing the valley of Lamasón first and then and then this municipality of Peñarrubia for Linares, until arriving to Hermida.
