Alquézar is a municipality of the district Somontano of Barbastro in the County of Huesca, located in the right margin of the river Vero, in its last canyon, to the foot of the mountains Balces and Oisón, dista of Huesca 51 km Owes its name to the castle or Al-Qasr built to defend the access to the capital of Barbitanya (Barbastro) Century IX Jalaf ibn Rasid it ordered to build the castle and he/she transformed into the main point of defense of Barbastro in front of the Christian Kingdom of Sobrarbe August of 1067, 28 the king Sancho Ramírez from Aragon granted the village of Beranúy and Santa María from Sabiñánigo to the abbot of Fanlo "because you manufactured the tower in Alquézar" (CANELLAS, Cartulario of Fanlo, nº. 46)
