The Monastery of San Lorenzo Of Escorial was promoted by Felipe II, among other reasons, to commemorate its victory in the battle of San Quintín, August of 1557, 10 festivity of San Lorenzo. This battle marked the beginning of the process of planning that culminated with the placement of the first stone April of 1563, 23 under the direction of John the Baptist from Toledo General Foto:Dirección of Tourism
