The village of Oñate (in Basque and officially Oñati) is a municipality of the county of Guipúzcoa, Basque country (Spain), pertenecienta to the district of High Deva. The name of Oñate (in Basque he/she is called Oñati) probably derives of the Basque oin it ties, translatable as port foot and he/she mentions to its position in a closed surrounded valley of mountains for almost all the sides. The Basque gentile oñatiarra is habitually also used in Castilian. Oñacino / to it is more used to refer to those in favor of the House of Oinaz in the Wars of Banderizos of the Half Age and the Rebirth. Colloquially it is also used txantxiku that means toad in the local Basque.
