Rentería (officially and in Basque Errenteria) is a municipality located in the northeastern quadrant of Guipúzcoa 7 km of San Sebastian, at 476 of Madrid and 10 of the frontier with France. The municipal term has a surface of 31 km², it limits to the north with Lezo, to the west with Hernani, Astigarraga and the neighborhood donostiarra of Rise, to the south and southeast with the Navarrese towns of it Claws and Goizueta respectively, to the east with Oyarzun and to the nor-northwest with the Bay of Passages. It belongs to the district of Oarsoaldea, together with the municipalities of Oyarzun, Passages and Lezo.Throughout their history Rentería has had diverse names. The village was founded in 1320 with the name of Villanueva of Oiarso, in the place where he/she was a small nucleus of population denominated prexistente Orereta. Oiarso is the name of the valley in which the foundation was pierced. At the moment that name has evolved and it is known as Oyarzun (in Basque Oiartzun) to the old valley of Oiarso.
