Very Noble and Very Loyal and Unbeaten Villa of Bilbao (Bilbo or also Bilbao, in Basque *) is the capital of the historical territory of Biscay, in Basque country (Spain). The titles of "Very Noble and Very Loyal and Unbeaten" were granted him/her by Reyes Catholics ("Nobleman", in 1475), Felipe III ("Very Noble and Very Loyal", in 1603), and the queen MarÃa Cristina ("Unbeaten", in 1837).The official name of the city is Bilbao that is like one knows to the city in all the languages of the world. The Real Academy of the Basque (Euskaltzaindia) Language agrees that the historical name in Basque is Bilbo, but it admits that of Bilbao at the same time.Bilbao is known affectionately by its inhabitants as The botxo, this is, "The hole", since it is surrounded by mountains. Another nickname that you/they receive the bilbaÃnos is that of chimbos that comes from some birds that were hunted in big quantities in Bilbao during the XIX century.
