The monastery was built in style románico, like it corresponded to the time. He/she has later reconstructions of the XVI century, in style herreriano, of the XVII century and of the XVIII one. At the beginning it was a Benedictine abbey, but starting from 1878 Augustinian Recoletos governs it. He/she is in perfect state thanks to that at the present time is inhabited by the monks that are in charge of for their maintenance. You consents to the interior for a Baroque door of the XVII century that takes Corinthian columns and a relief from San Millán to horse. From the lobby one enters to Reyes' Living room where there are valuable several squares painted by brother Juan Rizzi that represent counts and kings, among them to GarcĂa of Nájera, the founder, and to Sancho III the one bigger than Navarrese (father of the previous one) that offers a particularity: their head is the Spanish writer's portrait, Lope de Vega. The church is of 3 ships, with starry vault and a beautiful dome. He/she also has an altarpiece of the XVII century with paintings of brother Juan Rizzi; the central square represents San Millán in the battle of Ricks (Burgos) against the Moors. The Christian, in their fights against the Muslims, chose San Millán like boss and this way, Gonzalo of Berceo in his Life of San Millán counts us the promise of the legendary votes, of a part Ramiro II of LeĂłn to Santiago and of the other one, Fernán González to San Millán. Then he/she refers us the wonderful appearance of both bosses in the battle of Ricks. Author tunguska picture |
