Antigua mosque of Córdoba, transformed into the XIII century in the current Cathedral of Córdoba that constitutes the most important monument in the Hispanic-Muslim art, next to Alhambra. It is the third bigger mosque of the world, from behind of those of Casablanca and Meca since has a surface of 23.400 square meters.History of the monument, According to a succinct version of the traditional story, the mosque of Córdoba would have been initiate under the first emir's omeya reign Abderramán I between the 780 and the 785, on San Vicente's Visigothic basilica. It suffered successive amplifications in the centuries IX and X, and low command of Almanzor was concluded. The most important in the amplifications is that of Alhakén II to the one that you/they belong the arches of the mihrab. It was place of meetings at the same time religious and political because it could house up to twenty thousand people.
