Their capital is Valverde, municipality where the Port of the Stake and the Airport of the Iron are located. The name of the island, Iron, in spite of what one can think comes from the aboriginal (Hero) language but, during the conquest, he/she transformed for similarity with the Castilian word.In the text of Plinio the Old (who took as source to Juba II) one where it is named to the islands Canaries, they appear a series of names. Although there is not anything that it indicates with security that this is this way, he/she is usually related to the island that he/she appears denominated as Capraria with the Iron. As for the term Capraria the debate rotates around three theories: the first that you/they identify to capraria with the great number of present goats in the island; the second speak of a transcription error, and since in the description that makes Plinio of the island it is said populated of big lizards, he/she can that the original term was Sauraria; the third make reference to the existence of the etnĂłnimo or name of tribe norteafricana caprarii, as well as of the Mounts Caprarienses. picture |
