The Valley of Ambroz is a district located in the north of the county of Cáceres, in the last estribaciones of Sierra of Gredos. With a population of 8.219 inhabitants and a surface of 235 km2 the Union of Municipalities is formed by eight towns: Abbey, Aldeanueva of the Road, Bathrooms of Montemayor, Houses of the Mount, The Throat, Necklace, Hervás and Sure of Bull.

Located in the heart of the Mountains of the North of Extremadura, flanked by the Valley from Jerte to the east, Hurdes and Granadilla to the west, Plasencia to the South and Sierra of Béjar to the North, it is crossed by the highway N-630 (Gijón-Seville) or Route of the Silver.

Historically The Valley of Ambroz has been in passing place. They attest this way it the remains of the Roman roadway of the Road of the Silver, or the Real Soriana-western Narrow canyons and Vizana that are still used by the migrating cattlemen. These roads have left their impronta in the opened character and welcoming of the inhabitants of Ambroz.

Their privileged situation transforms it into a true vergel of the nature, with a special microclimate that provides soft winters and fresh summers. In 30 kilometers he/she hardly spends from superior heights to 2100 m that shelter of the cold winds of the north and with snow great part of the year, until 400 m. where the meadow shows its splendor. We can say that it is a small flask where they meet all the essences, a book of samples of diverse ecosystems of great wealth.

The Virgin's image has a long life according to the legend, because its first proprietor was, according to the old codexes, San Lucas, the Roman senator Lucano, in the century I of the Christian era. They count that died the evangelist, in Acaya (smaller Asia), the image was buried with him. In the century IV, it was transferred, with the deceased, to Constatinopla and, from here, it was taken to Rome by the cardinal Gregorio, Pope's legacy Pelagio II. Once elected pontiff, Great Gregorio, exposed it in his oratory. The virgin one writes down their first miraculous intervention when the town of Rome, after acclaiming her with fervor to its step in procession for the streets of that city whipped by the pest, checked that the fatal epidemic disappeared while an angel appeared on the castle cleaning the blood of a sword, at the time that a choir of angels sang. Isidoro, Pope's transfer brother the image to Seville and he/she gave it to San Leandro, archbishop of the city. During the voyage, a strong storm calmed down and the image arrived harmless to the port fluvial hispalense, from there it was transferred to the main church, in which was worshipped until the Muslim invasion of the year 711
