UjuĂ© (Uxue in Basque) is a municipality located in the Statutory Community of Navarrese (Spain) 53 km of capital Pamplona.Their origins are confused, being ignored the exact date of their foundation. In their chronicle he/she writes: "Another town, of name Santa MarĂa, is the first of the strengths that is part of the defensive system of Pamplona. It is the one that is built with more solidity and it occupies the highest" position.

| Before this temple there was another dedicated to Santa MarĂa Blanca. When being conquered the city by Alfonso the Fighter, this granted to the Arabs, among other privileges, the one of using of their bigger Mosque, built by Muza II in S. IX, during one year, and compliment this, April of 1121, 14 were applied to the Christian cult by the bishop of Tarazona, don Miguel that dedicated it to Santa MarĂa. The construction of the Temple, begun in 1168 on the remains of the biggest mosque, ended advanced the XIII century in Cistercian style or of transition of the románico to the Gothic. Not it is of missing that they have been many and valuable the remains that have been in this Cathedral of the Mosque, as cantilevers, windows and Arabic plaster-works only comparable to the best in CĂłrdoba and Toledo. He/she is the great stranger of the Spanish cathedrals, although, for their architecture, their cloister románico and the variety and wealth of their altarpieces and chapels, it deserves to figure among the best in their size and style. | Sacred MarĂa the Real Cathedral of Pamplona. Employer of Navarrese in the presbytery, under a neo-Gothic baldachin, presides over Santa MarĂa's image the Real, beautiful copy of the sculpture románica. Carved in wood, it was already recovered of silver in the same one.XII century; the Boy was redone in the XVII century and the seat in the XVIII one. The seat Renaissance coral, executed among 1531-1541, is the best sculptors' in the area work: Esteban of Obray, GuillĂ©n from Holland, Juan of Beauvais and others. |
