Description:
Monjardín is a small mountain that rises to Estella's south-west. To his feet the population of Villamayor de Monjardín rises and, in high place, the castle roquero of San Esteban of Deyo, who then, for influence of the Carolingian legends of the Chronicle of Turpín, should take the name of Monjardín. Founded by Banu Qasi, was constituting an important defensive bastion at the end of the IX.th century At present there preserve the walls, the medieval cistern and her chapel reconstructed in epoch baroque and dedicated to the Santa Cruz.

Her church of San Andrés, it is a building composed by a ship of two stretches between arches fajones pointed that support the vault of cannon also pointed, wider head with rectangular stretch and apse in the shape of semicircle, the latter cutlery for vault of stove. They emphasize the exterior effects with thick ashlar walls, re-grown nowadays, where the cylindrical one is opposed of apse articulated by attached columns, and the big horizontal mass of the ship. In his flank west opens the primitive Romanesque front to itself with archivolts of half a point on columns with capitals vegetable and figurative. The vestry, of baroque style, and porch, at present in ruins, they were constructed in 1727. The Cross parochial of silver worked in Romanesque style concerning 1200, constitutes the only copy inside the Navarrese gold work.

It is interesting also, the domed medieval source, of 1200, which is in the outskirts, to few meters of the town. Earlier her it knew as" Source of the Moors". It surprises with a double arch aimed of revenue that it passes to a rectangular enclosure and to some deep stairs that descend up to the water, which flows of with fund. It was restored not many years ago. (Text of the web Navarre, official page of the Government)
