Aljarafe is a region of the province of Seville placed to the west of the capital.
The Aljarafe and the metropolitan area of SevillaSu name proceeds of an Arab voice that was meaning hillock or elevation.
The culture aljarafeńa more ancient is that of the Tartesos which legacy more famous is the treasure of the Carambolo, found in the place of the same name near to Castilleja of the Slope.
The Roman conquerors called Vergetum (yard) these grounds, which were exporting wine and oil to Rome and other cities of Empire. Of this epoch the Roman Aznalcázar bridge survives and some mosaics in Castilleja of the Field.
During the Moslem epoch it reached a big development socieconómico, of this epoch numerous traces as the towers survive of Olive groves and Albaida del Aljarafe and numerous turned mosques later in Christian temples.
The Aljarafe is organized in three metropolitan crowns:
- The first crown: Bormujos, Beds, Castilleja of the Slope, Castilleja of Guzmán, Gelves, Gines, Mairena del Aljarafe, Dovecotes of the Rio, Santiponce, You will Take, Saint John and Valencina.
- The second crown: Albaida, Almensilla, Benacazón, Bollullos, Colaughs, Espartinas, Olive groves, Populates of the Rio, Sanlúcar the Biggest, Salteras, Umbrete and Villanueva del Ariscal.
- Third crown: Aznalcázar, Carrión of the Lawns, Castilleja of the Field, Huevar, Batteries and Villamanrique.
And divided in several brokers: The North Aljarafe (Between the route of train and the A-49), Aljarafe Central (Between the A-49 and the divided highway of Mairena), the aljarafe centred South (South of the divided highway of Mairena) and Riverside Aljarafe (articulated about the Coria divided highway)
