The Ist populate of Santiponce is born on the banks of The Guadalquivir, in a place so called Iron “Isla ”, where today it locates the Olympian Stadium of the Carthusian order. As for the origins of Italic, a knowledge is missing exhaustively of the establishment turdetano, especially in his relation with Escipión's foundation. Nevertheless, evidences have of nucleus prerromano across the excavations realized in Hayrick of Arcillo and in the location of the theater. The city, which lived through his moments of maximum splendor between the Ist and IVth centuries of our age, especially under the reigns of Trajano and Adriano, begins a gradual despoblamiento that is accentuated in epoch visigoda, up to his entire abandonment in Moslem epoch. The sources Arab speak to us of ""Taliqa" in the XIIth century, place name of which it derives from the " name "of Talca" that was given to the deserted place in the low Middle Age.
The deposit is constituted basically by the Roman city of Italic, whose nucleus fundacional is secret under the helmet urban of the current Santiponce and a residential area of expansion included in what at present it is the Archaeological Set of Italic. To the principal nucleus of the deposit - the Roman city - it is that to add diverse integral elements of the same one placed to exterior of the wall: Amphitheater, theater, aqueduct, necropolis and areas of handmade or agricultural character.
The surface that declares itself in the delimitation of the good of interest culturally is of approximately 116 hectares and 20 areas.
In the nucleus fundacional of the population the primitive one constructed himself forum and his attached, still badly well-known public dependencies, although it seems that the presence of an ancient one is already detected republican temple. Two retablitos-cantilevers of XVIIIth century, placed on both sides of the reredos, contain them sculptures of San Joaquín, in terracotta of the same epoch, and San Sebastián, size of the XVIth century. Except the Crucified one, the rest of the sculptures seem nearby to Hita of the Castle.
