At first it was named Montefuerte and for contraction of the word finished in Monforte, from 1916 it is already known like Monforte de Moyuela.

Monforte was located originally along with the castle, moving later to the plain. It had, from the beginnings of Reconquest, a big strategic importance: the point was of a contact between the depression of the Ebro and the Iberian mountainous ranges, in extremadura Aragonese.

Monforte appears like one of the most ancient documentary mentions of the region, since it was repopulated in 1157, year in which Ramón Berenguer IV takes it giving him Letter of Population, with the jurisdictions of Saragossa and fixing the local terms.
