Municipality of Community of Teruel nailed in the fertile plain of the High place Jiloca, bordering on grounds of the region of Jiloca.
It presents a city center spread enough between themselves, despite it we can contemplate clear examples of popular architecture following the postulates of the area, he emphasizes the building of the Town hall, dated to ends the XVIIIth century.
Torrelacárcel placed in the plain, is I populate of Arab origin in which the first thing
that differs is the tower, she, the church of Ours Lady of the Angels.
The central part of the church well could be a mosque, since in the south side of
this one and on having changed the soil of the church in the 60s, appeared one Arab cemetery, of
which there were extracted plates of ceramics and parchments.
Later, after Torrelacárcel is conquered by Alfonso I Fighter, the year
1124, it transformed in Romanesque church, as the piece testifies it more ancient than the treasure
parochial, a virgin Romanesque “Virgen with Child ”, that is deposited in the Museum
Diocesan of Teruel. From this virgin they emphasize the rudeness and primitivism of his forms between
that the head stands out, of very expressive eyes. Seated child presents in his
lap in asymmetric position and his iconographic ancestry finds in the catacombs
of Domitila (IIIrd century).
This image is dated in the XIIIth century, and his presence in this one place would be necessary to relate it
the year 1128, when Alfonso I the Fighter founded the “Militia Christi ”, with head office
in Monreal of the Field, with the mission to defend these grounds, frontier line of that time
with the Moors.
The current church has walls of masonry, three ships with crucería covering
simple in the central ship, except the head, which is something more complicated. The side ships
they are covered with edge vault and a chapel presents dome with lantern.
