Of this epoch also there are the bases of the castle of Villalba, constructed for to protect the Roman roadway that was passing to his feet. The first one written document in which it is mentioned to Onion like establishment fixedly, is in a text mozarábe of the year 1184, in which there reports it existence of a farmhouse or set of farmhouses, in the place of Onion. The set of the Town was composed by the farmhouses of The Hamlet, Villalba, Sanchón and The Houses of Onion, firstly name of the town. The name of Onion is the maintenance of toponomía Arab, preserved by the Mozarabs and it owes him to the place where the Town was founded. Onion is the castellanización of the term Arab "yevayla", which siginifica hillock or hill, I besiege where it placed his church and the adjacent hamlet. It deformed Yubaila and hence to Zeboila. In the texts later to the XIVth century it appears already as Zebolla, denomination that will survive until our days. |
