The place name "Carpio" could have his origin in the fortitude that the Iberians were building on the banks of the rivers and that, so much they like the Romans, called "carpias". This way it would come to to mean "fortitude or castle along with the river". This place should be had known by the Celtic shepherds and perhaps for these it was populated. In the Roman epoch a route joins this village with Toledo; acquiring his biggest splendor in the age visigoda. It is occupied by the Moslem invaders up to Alfonso's reconquest VI; and already in the second half of the XVIth century it belongs to the state of Montabán. Town is done in the year 1737, year in which there is erected jurisdictional roll that credits it as such. (Fte.-Texto Delegation) |
