The word "thorny" proceeds as this Town surrounded with hawthorns is known about the Latin "espinosus" on having been in his origins. The epithet "of the King" does not appear until the XVIth century, in that one declares exempt town or realenga by virtue of the "privilege and real Certificate of the Catholic Majesty of Felipe II". Therefore geographical name adds his realengo condition to one; "of the King", remaining "Thorny of the King". According to tradition was founded at the beginning of the IVth century by the first ones Christians fugitives of the Carpetania as a result of pursuits. The geographer mister Coello believes that the ancient Ispinim is the current Thorny one, and for the pasaba the way of Toledo to Guadeloupe route of the Roman epoch. It was a Thorny ancestral place of Saint Hermandad Vieja of Toledo, Talavera and Ciudad Real did town to himself for privilege and Real Certificate given by Felipe II In Madrid On August 14, 1579. The parochial file was preserving books that were dating from 1544 to 1900, file that was destroyed completely in September, 1936.
