"Garciotún" stems of "García Hortum or Fortun", personage who repopulated the place immediately after the reconquest for the Castilians. In times of Alfonso VI a Fortun Blázquez lives, to the one that this monarch entrusts him to repopulate the Table of Ocaña. Later it will know for "Garciotún".

It was depending, in administratively and in the religious thing, of The Castle of Bayuela, on whose church was attached, until in 1670 it becomes independent, taking town title. Nevertheless, it kept on belonging to the state of Castle Bayuela and Montesclaros. (Fte.-Texto Delegation to see link)
