A few times there appears written Gerindote, others Cerindote and other Zerindote, in the XVIth, XVIIIth, XVIIIth centuries respectively. It is possible that this name has, at least, the root Arabic; "jeri", that could mean "hillside". This Town belonged to the bishop of Segovia and in 1482 them Reyes Católicos there donate the towns of Gerindote, Alcabón and Torrijos to his biggest book-keeper don Gutierre de Cárdenas, major commander of León. In the second half of the XVIth century an abundant one already has olives planting. Every year they do a procession to the church of Saint John of Stolen. It belongs to the Knees arciprestazgo. In the XVIIIth century there was a chapel dedicated to San Sebastian, which was falling down, without then it being a question of reconstructing it. (Fte.-Texto Delegation to see link) |
