The place name "Ugena" can derive of antropónimos "USTIUS", "USIUS", prerrománicos, according to Menendez Pidal A very ancient population indicates the place name, perhaps Iberian - Celt. In the XVIIIth century one is still said that in Ugena "there are many Mozarabs", what seems to indicate that there was Roman population and visigoda or that the town was repopulated by Mozarabs toledanos, after the conquest. The Ugena door, in the old wall of Illescas, of the XIth century, endorses this affirmation of his past Mozarabic, belonging to the dominion of the archbishop of Toledo. Her relation of 1576 indicates that in these years it is a Town realengo, in ground and corregimiento of Illescas. It keeps on being a Town realengo until in 1660 it was sold to don Fernando Carlos de Vera, Count Rock. Later it happens in 1734 to don Francisco Goyeneche, who was created Marquess of Ugena in 1735. In 1780 it is again realenga. (Fte.-Texto Delegation to see link) |
