Placed on the coast of the sea Cantabrico, to shores of the river Estepana that, being born in the skirt of the mount Elorriaga, the population crosses and it forms a port.
The new highway to Arminza (Lemoiz) opened in August, 1970, consists of a 12 km tracing. and it opens a splendid panorama on the rocky scenery of this stretch of the Cantabrico. It limits Bakio to E. with Bermeo, to the S. with Mungia, to O. with Plentzia, Mungia and Maruri and to the N. with the sea.
The municipality of Bakio presents two areas well differentiated in all that refers to population environment, on one hand coastal stripe would be , with an urban morphology defined by buildings of recent construction and of residential type, and for other one the areas of the interior, more centred on a rural way of life and with one proper dispersed habitat of agrarian populations.
Of interest:
Chapel of San Pelayo
Chapel of the Romanesque epoch, of the second half of the XIIth century. This one surrounded by a porch perimetral. His conservation state is well. It is on the hillside of the Burgoa.
Palace Elexpuru
Sober baroque palace, without any class of boasting, with one exaggerated vertical order that a few shy pilasters impose. In entry porch is present a double arch.
Several mills as Ureta survive in San Pelaio, Kurtzikene-Olabarri in Artzalde, Olatxu and Bekoerrota. (fte. to see the links)
