Lanestosa received the Town title on June 6, 1287, of hands of the Master of Biscay, D. Diego López Díaz de Haro, a privilege that he was answering to the interest to regulate the natural routes of penetration from Castile to the sea, across the port of Winches. When López de Haro founds this town, a stable population tries to consolidate to the edge of a way journeyed from much ancient and foreign properly to the Dominion: the one that joins the mountains of Burgos with the Cantabrico.
