It seems that the Romans inhabited the area of Ranes, between The Sand and Kardeo, where one appeared in 1969 Roman necropolis, along with medieval other one.
Zierbena was part of the called vale of Somorrostro, one of 9 vales that were composing the region of the Encartaciones. In these vales were creating in the High Average age the primitive ones monasteries or parishes of particular foundation, in whose environment there arose the villages that reinforced his character of stable population and councils were consolidated like so called administrative entities , and later another type of entity: the republic. Following this process, the Somorrostro vale fragmented in republics or town halls named Four Councils (San Román of Zierbena, San Pedro of Abanto, Santa Juliana de Abanto and San Julián of Muskiz) and Three Councils (San Jorge of Santurtzi, Santa Maria of Sestao and San Salvador of the Vale of Trápaga).

In the Zierbena history there exist two sports forms that are the most ancient and indigenous:
Skittles to Katxete. From unmemorable times form staked to this one , the carrejos in this epoch were managing the proprietors of the bars. The social transformations have led that, in the actuality, are of municipal entitlement.
I row. Zierbena possesses one of the more ancient clubs of oar of Biscay. He was born like a practice, (product of the rivalry between crews of different ports), at the end of last century. Zierbena was taking part in drifters' ditches, trainerillas and skiffs, competing with municipalities of Biscay and Gipuzkoa, and obtaining an impressive record of victories that continues getting fat nowadays.
