County of Montijo, Title granted for Felipe III in 1599 of Juan de Portocarrero. The nobility of Spain was declared attached to the title by Carlos II, in 1697, in the epoch of four titular, Cristóbal de Portocarrero and Guzmán. The sixth one to title, Maria Francisca de Portocarrero, married Felipe de Palafox and of Croy. His progeny was Eugenio Eulalio Palafox and Portocarrero - one of the leaders of the fraction fernandista in court of Carlos IV (it had part emphasized in the preparation of the riot of Aranjuez, in 1808), although during the reign of Fernando VII it supported an ambiguous position (he was a Masonic leader and was implied in the liberal Lift of Irrigation) and Eugenia de Montijo, empress of France years 1653-1870

The city center settles in a patio not inundable, along with the river Ebro, in his left margin.

We can emphasize the parochial church of San Pedro, of style Gothic. It is dated in the XVIth century, although the aspect that it presents today owes to a reconstruction realized after the Civil war. In this one contest the building remained so ruined that, up to his restoration, it served like granary or store. On the other hand, it lost the high altar, of big artistic value, in a fire, to beginning of the XXth century.

Alforque offers the possibility of practising the fishing in his incomparable natural environment on the banks of the Ebro.

In his waters we can find: the siluro, pike, lucioperca, black bass, alburno, tent and common barbel in addition to other fish. All one paradise for the fisherman and the lovers of the nature.
