Tarazona , like capital of the region, assembles the principal ones industrial activities and the most important services of the area, as well as an out-standing hereditary, artistic and natural set. Her offer of accommodations, hotels, restaurants, places of glasses, bars, etc. is enormous and varied.

During the Roman epoch Tarazona (a walk) was a prosperous city of civil law (that is to say, that his inhabitants had right citizenship plenary meeting Roman) of name Turiaso.

With the fall of the empire he suffers, as the rest of areas urban, a decline compensated with the Islamic invasion.

Tarazona was reconquered in 1119 by Alfonso I of Aragon and it turned in episcopal head office. After the death of Alfonso I, Tarazona stayed like frontier city between Castile, Navarre and Aragon and receiving special strategic importance.

During all the middle age Christians lived together in the city, Jews and Muslims. The Moslem presence remained reflected in building architecture of Mudejar style, like the cathedral. When the Moriscos were expelled the city the deep one suffered crisis.

In the XIVth century, the city was occupied by the Castilian troops for nine years, during which the cathedral suffered different damages.

In the XXth century it was an important industrial center in which they were emphasizing the production of fósforos and textile. From 1980, industries were replaced with other one.

At present it has an important tourist activity and it is provided with out-standing hotels and restaurants with excellent regional kitchen.

In the street Borja n. 7 of Tarazona finds the only House of Translator in Spain: a center for creative stays of literary translators of the whole world that there work with one of official languages of Spain (Castilian, Catalan, Basque, Galician) and any other languages combination. The House was founded in 1988 by Francisco Uriz, National Award of Translation. It is part of European network of International Centers of Translation (RECIT).

Holidays and Traditions: From August 27 until September 1 they celebrate the management holidays in honor of San Atilano. The holidays begin with the exit of the Cipotegato, from the Town hall. Them origins of this popular personage go back, at least, a century XVII although historical precedents can turns already in the buffoons that were entertaining the kings. In the beginnings of this century, Cipotegato was appearing in the Tarazona holidays, dispersing to the nations who were attending to the dancers to dance paloteado.
